The Day We Met

 "The day we met..
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I had found a home to my heart!"

These are the lyrics in my head when I think of that day - the most special day of my life because that's when I first met you! November 18, 2022 will always be my favorite day.

I was already on my maternity leave since October 1st since I wasn't allowed to travel after that from Qatar. Appa had also taken leave and come to be with me and not miss your birth since the 11th of November. Tatha, Ammama and Bahrain Tatha paati, who were also in Mumbai at that time were all eagerly waiting for your arrival.

I had just had a checkup the previous evening and Mumma's gynecologist in Thane - Dr Sangeeta Shetty, had told Mumma that you didn't want to come out yet. You were happy inside and showed no signs of coming out even though it was 40 weeks and time for you to be out.  She said we would have to give Mumma medicine to bring you out either on 18th or 21st of November. So, we decided to wait till 21st. But, you my little fellow had different plans.

It was around 3.30 pm. I was resting after lunch at Thane. Appa was there too, busy with his MBA lecture. That's when i started feeling the pain and I knew you would arrive soon. As the pain started increasing, we called up the doctor. She asked me to rush to the hospital and that's where the chaos began. What happened next is a blur

We found out that you had pooped in the tummy
Doctor rushed me for a cesarean
WE lost your heartbeat for a minute
Panic all over
Hurried anesthesia
operation

All of this happened within minutes and the next thing I remember is hearing your cry at 5.54 pm and that's when i remember breathing again. That moment when the doctor first placed you on my chest, my heart was home. i couldn't stop staring at the perfect little thing you were. A tiny 2.46 kg dumpling that just made me smile like a mad woman. They took you away soon after for a checkup and cleaning while they stitched me up.

Appa, tatha and ammama, who were eagerly waiting out were equally excited to hear that roaring cry. They tell you you immediately smiled at them, when they wheeled you out.

No one in the family was allowed to hold you until much later that night. When we were finally in the ward, Appa was the first to hold you and soothe you when you started crying. I could finally hold you the next morning when i was allowed to sit up and I couldn't be more content.

I spent that night in pain, from the stitches and from lying down straight all night - but i was the happiest and most content person on earth seeing you sleeping peacefully next to me.

Here's when everyone held you for the first time:

Love, hugs and kisses,
Amma
